Note: Something has happened with the layout and format of my blog, i will attend to it ASAP, sorry for the ugliness!
Yes, still doing Melbourne posts .... 7 months after my trip. i may possibly be closer next trip down. I haven't done any travelling since this Melbourne trip so i am heaps excited to announce that I'M GOING TO EAT DRINK BLOG 4 CONFERENCE in Perth this November! HELLO Perth!
I jumped on this blogging bandwagon just 18 months ago so i am heaps excited to finally meet the amazing people i
stalk follow online! Anyways, just a short post today as i've been at work all weekend and the rainy weather makes my day so yawn inducing. ( i love the smell of rain, thats about it really.)
There are places that you simply have to visit when you visit a certain city, for me most of them are food related (surprise surprise!). I have heard raving reviews about Hutong dumpling bar in Melbourne CBD. So i arrived at this little hidden gem in one of Melbourne's lane ways to find there is a 45 minute wait. Being persistent that we have dumplings, i took a ticket and went to have desserts at Dessert Story down the road ( who says you can't do it the other way round?) but that's another post for another day! ( another belated one i know, sorry!)
a sneaky shots of our neighbours. There were quite a few westerners here. The staff's attitude and service was visibly different between us and them, with the waitstaff being pretty rude.
A typical menu at a chinese place. love how the name emblazoned across it in gold.
vegetable (spinach) dumplings. 6pcs
xiao long bao, 8pcs
scallop dumplings, 4pcs
we also ordered the scallop dumplings. these were probably the best of the night. the skin was thin and translucent and the filling was plentiful and flavoursome.
Overall, i don't think this place quite lives up to the hype that surrounds it. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, bordering average here, but not as good as people rave about it. Maybe i should try more of the menu before i judge.
stay dry and till next time,
