Hello lovelies! its Tuesday, i hope Monday-itis is all gone and everyone is looking forward to the rest of the week!
So... i've recently jumped on the gym bandwagon, i've finally picked a gym i like, it has classes, its clean , affordable and relative accessible. reason behind it? i'm not trying to lose a few kilos ( which i should anyways) but i figured if i wasn't going to change my eating ways, i may as well change my exercise routine. right? logical? i think so!
The plus side of joining the gym for me is that i'm in feeling less lethargic, more energetic and as seen above, cheerful (also said by my colleague, whom i share an office with!)
Ok, back to the food, before anyone starts throwing rotten tomatoes at me!
This is a very delayed post..... very delayed, considering i was in Melbourne back in February.... so 6 odd months? oops! but this restaurant is too good to not blog about.
once you find the mysterious doors on street level, you will be greeting with another glass door that unassumingly has DEN printed on it.
Head through the curtains and you will be transported to Japan with a modern twist. its dark and mysterious. but we are quickly lead to a table to pursue the menu.
I love the little touches, they have bag hooks available for us, meaning we didnt have to leave our bags on the floor or on the very tiny table. just don't forget your bag when you leave!
and how cute are these glasses!?!?
The menu is short and sweet and changes regularly, with the classics and popular items pretty much being a permanent resident.
sweet corn kaki age with green tea salt.
"its corn, how special can it be?" my fellow travelling buddy said. boy she was wrong. this corn was amazing, crunchy juicy kernels, just the right amount of seasoning. this was simply amazing!
i tried to recreate this at home, that didn't work out so well....
den fried chicken
i don't really need to justify why i ended up ordering fried chicken right? this is possibly the best karaage ive had in a while. enough said.
ox tongue. spring onion.
I love ox tongue and i will order it every single time i see it on the menu. i had a pretty disappointing one before i jetted off to Melbourne so when this dish came out i was a bit skeptical. How wrong was i? this dis hwas packed with os much flavour and the tongue was perfectly grilled. simply delicious!
agedashi tofu with quinoa and cherry tomatoes
This dish is a twist on your usual agedashi tofu. instead of the stretchy coating of rice flour you get a soft silky piece of tofu coated in quinoa. i loved this dish as it gave it a wonderful texture. i also liked the addition of the cherry tomatoes as it went well with the sauce. someone DHL me some!
barramundi fillet baked in banana leaves with coconut.
We also ordered barramundi baked in banana leaves with coconut. i personally think half the fun is in opening up the parcel and discovering what you've ordered ( i love opening parcels in general :P)
this is probably the best piece i've baked fish i've ever had. i've had a fair few dry baked dish experiences but the barramundi flesh on this one was still juicy and moist. and the coconut? it totally bought this dish to another level!this was so good we ordered 2nds!
We didn't order much for 3 people because we had a gazillion places to tick off, we ventured to hutong dumplings and dessert story after that, so we definitely got all the calories we needed!
Till next time,
