*drumroll* NY times no knead bread! i first heard of this brilliant concept from gourmet girlfirend's blog then it popped up all over instagram as well. i took that as a sign that i should give it a go. what have i got to lose really?
The recipe is so simple, you won't even believe it, literally combine everything in a bowl, give it a little mix with a fork or your hands so the mix is a bit stringy then cover with cling wrap. thats all! now time is your best friend and you can watch it grow! ( this reminded me of the sea monkey things that we use to grow as a kid!)
This is what it looks like after 18 hrs. bubbly, slightly wet dough mix. don't freak, its normal!
you can check out the original recipe or gourmet girlfriend's adaptation of it here and here.
So after a long long wait ( minus floury hands, forehead, hair and kitchen) the bread was ready! and to check if it is ready, put your ear close to the bread ( stop breathing in the bread aroma for a sec!) and listen to it sing! well.... crackle. like ironchef shellie said, it is clapping at your effort! you have made real bread!
I was really happy with this bread! it felt exactly like the crusty bread you get at cafes and restaurants when you eat out! i was so happy i took a photo WITH the bread. (don't judge, i'm cool like that!)
I was so happy with it i made a double batch 2 days later, giving a batch to my sister-in-law who has now also hopped onto this bread making bandwagon!
if you have instagram, # gourmetgirlfriend and #ggbreadrevolution to see all the other amazing produces made from this awesome recipe!
This was my brunch the day after bread making, it is always so rewarding to eat your own cooking!
i am now working on my new garden project ( my "garden" in polystyrene boxes just didn't last long enough) so hopefully next time the tomatoes and basil will come from my garden too!
do try this out! you will not regret!
till next time,
