Sydney has changed so much, especially in the last few years. Growing up in Sydney meant my childhood revolved (literally) around the Darling harbour playground ( the old one was grotty but full of childhood memories) and the now rarely operating merry-go-around. There was also timezone inside harbourside and the now defunct monorail. those were the days!
What never really caught my attention were the few restaurants that lined the exterior of Harbourside shopping centre, i always (it probably is) thought they were for tourists. I found myself at one of them, Olivio's on a fine Autumn day (backlog of posts!) after a leisurely day of hanging out at the harbour with my brother, sister-in-law and nephew. If it wasn't for my starving sister-in-law i would not of picked anything along this restaurant strip.
The service here is brisk and friendly as the tables turnover pretty quickly. My nephew was the only kid around and he received a lot of ngawws and coos from fellow diners and passer-bys. such an attention seeking kid!
Being the mushroom fiend, i opted for a mixed mushrooms risotto. again it was generous in size but the risotto was still a bit chalky. The mushrooms were fantastic tho, cooked really nicely and very flavoursome.
My brother is goign through a fettucine phase and opted for a chorizo fettucine with blue cheese and olive sauce. i thought the olives were a bit out of place and i couldn't taste any cheese in the sauce (which i think is a big problem when you've describes the sauce as being blue cheese).
Sis-in-law opted for the chicken caesar salad. it was a generous portion and flavourwise it was quite nice but i didn't like how they just cut a chicken breast into 4 massive pieces. i didn't order a chicken steak.
We also ordered a side of bruschetta to share, unfortunately the bread was burnt beyond recognition ( it was more like charcoal) leaving an unpleasant powdery residue and bitter flavour behind.
How can u not go ngawwww?
So would i try out all the other eateries along the strip? probably not if i had other choices, but hey i might be wrong and there might indeed be a hidden gem there. It wasn't a bad experience but i did expect better food there.
Till next time.
